In September 2023, the Union launched the next phase of improvements to the new website which will enable the public to search for our members’ classes near them using the postcode of the person needing a class.
This is also an opportunity to capture consistent information about Instructors with online classes and the different internal arts members teach. The latter will improve the search for those looking specifically for teachers of Baguazhang, Xing Yi Chuan and Qigong as well as Tai Chi.
Most people are finding their form easy to complete but we’ve had some helpful feedback so we’ve put together some additional help in response. If you would like clarification or have further questions, please contact us at webmaster@taichiunion.com.
- How do I find the “what3words” for my teaching location(s)?
- Which postcode(s) should I put for my class location(s)?
- What do I do if I teach in more than 4 locations?
- What name should I give?
- What contact information is needed as I only teach through fitness centres?
- How do I change other information on my listing, such as description?
“what3words” – optional location data
Remember that this is entirely optional on your form but will help pinpoint your class location more accurately than postcode.
“what3words” website gives every 3 metre square of the world a unique combination of three words. Used for e-commerce and delivery, navigation, emergencies and more. To complete the form, there should be no need for specialist software or applications for your phone or other device.
For Union members, “what3words” will be of use where postcode covers a large area such as a rural location, park or a large venue (such as a school where there are multiple buildings).
For example, if you were teaching by the Reformers Tree in Hyde Park, London
- Go to the what3words website using this link: https://what3words.com/pretty.needed.chill
- ///pretty/needed/chill are the “what3words” that uniquely define this particular 3m by 3m square.
- There is now a map on the screen
- At the top on the left where it says “///pretty/needed/chill” type over this with “Hyde Park”
- Hyde Park, London comes up as an option just underneath where you are typing. Click on this.
- You will see that the map now has a black square box in the middle of Hyde Park
- In this example, we chose a spot near the Reformers Tree in Hyde Park which gave us
- To do this we chose a square on the map near the Reformers Tree which gave us “///soil.cute.pill” as the “what3words”
- Choosing a slightly different square nearby will give a different “what3words” because the location is accurate to within a 3m by 3m square
- Copy from the “what3words” website to the form
- On the right of the words “///soil.cute.pill” you will see a symbol with two overlapping rectangles
- Click on this and the “what3words” will be copied to your clipboard
- Now “paste” the entry onto your form for the data request.
- In this case the entry on the form would read ///soil.cute.pill
Postcode data
- This must be the postcode(s) for the place(s) where you teach
- You must only enter a valid UK postcode
- Please do NOT enter spaces, county or any other data other than UK postcode in this field
- If you do not wish to enter any postcodes then please contact us at webmaster@taichiunion.com
- If you teach private one to one lessons in people’s homes or perhaps a local hall
- You could enter a postcode from the centre of the area you are prepared to travel to
- This might be your home postcode or perhaps somewhere else if you are uncomfortable giving your home postcode
- You could enter the postcode for a hall where you give the private lessons
- Remember that “what3words” is optional and can be left blank if this is not relevant to this location
- Your description on your web listing on our site will remain the same so you can say you give private classes in people’s homes
What to do if you teach in more than 4 locations
- If you teach in more than 4 locations, please fill in the form for your preferred locations and then let us know how many extra you would like to list by emailing us at webmaster@taichiunion.com
- We restricted the listings to 4 locations for the moment which seems to be more than sufficient for the vast majority of our members
- We will keep a note of how many people would like to list more than 4 locations to assess the demand and weigh this against any implications for resources both in amending the set up and maintaining the data afterwards.
- All the Board and most of the Support Team are unpaid volunteers and all work part-time. Whilst additional resourcing is very much part of the Board’s forward planning, we need to consider where time is best spent.
